Ululation and African praise poetry filled a conference hall when parents and guardians celebrated the achievements of 60 students who had successfully completed their courses at Boston City Campus and Business College Polokwane.
The graduates who had dressed to impress, were bestowed with certificates during a graduation ceremony held at a hospitality venue in the city on Friday. Students were conferred certificates in the faculties of Advertising, Communications and Public Relations, Accounting, Human Resources and Legal Studies, Information Technology, Sport and Wellness, Hospitality and Events Management as well as Business Administration. The overall top students in each faculty received trophies. The award for Overall Best Student of 2018 went to David Mafotja.
Although the college usually invites a motivational speaker to deliver a keynote address, things took a different turn this time around as the item was rendered by the institution’s Polokwane branch manager Sewela Shikweni. She indicated that the graduates compromised a lot of things to complete their studies. The ‘I can’ mentality ensured that students get to wear graduation gowns, she stated and reiterated that the graduates would make it far if they continued with the same mind-set.
As Shikweni went on to congratulate students, she however, cautioned that education does not end with a single qualification. “Studying does not stop. You must continue to further your studies. Keep pushing even though you feel tired or demoralised. Your hard work and perseverance will pay off at the end,” she explained.
Shikweni wished all the graduates best of luck with their future endeavours and thanked parents and guardians for entrusting the college with the education of their children.
