Azamgarh Lok Sabha seat: Akhilesh Yadav leads

Counting of votes for the Azamgarh Lok Sabha constituency is nearing an end. As expected SP leader Akhilesh Yadav leads and is set to register an astounding win over his nearest rival Dinesh Lal Yadav of BJP.

Counting of votes for the Azamgarh Lok Sabha constituency is nearing an end. As expected SP leader Akhilesh Yadav leads and is set to register an astounding win over his nearest rival Dinesh Lal Yadav of BJP.

The Azamgarh Lok Sabha constituency is currently held by Mulayam Singh Yadav of SP. In the 2014 Lok Sabha election, Mulayam Singh Yadav beat Ramakant Yadav of BJP by receiving 35.40 per cent of the votes cast in this constituency.

At the time of the previous Lok Sabha election in 2014, Azamgarh had 1,703,222 registered electors -- 941,548 of the male and 761,674 female. The constituency had seen a 56.38 per cent voter turnout in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections. In Azamgarh, the male voter turnout was 53.61 per cent and 59.79 per cent female voters turned out for voting.

The Lok Sabha constituency went to polls in the sixth phase of the election -- on May 12 and recorded a voter turnout of 57.40 per cent.

The seven phases of the Lok Sabha polls 2019 covered a total of 543 constituencies. Voting in the first phase was conducted on April 11. 

Simultaneous elections were held to the assemblies of Arunachal Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Sikkim, and Odisha -- the results for which will also be out today.
