Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath Thursday said the people of the country have rejected opposition's "negative" politics as he congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the BJP's imminent victory in the Lok Sabha polls.

- Congress President Rahul Gandhi was trailing in his party's traditional bastion of Amethi in Uttar Pradesh as his chief rival, Union Minister and BJP leader Smriti Irani has taken a slight edge of over 5,700 votes after trailing earlier.
- As per latest trends, Gandhi, who also contested from Kerala's Wayanad constituency, has till 2 p.m. garnered 74,416 votes as against 80,143 for Irani. Gandhi, however, was inching towards victory in Wayanad.
- As per latest trends, he has got 7,37,173 votes against P. P. Suneer of Communist Party of India (CPI) who has garnered 4.6 lakh votes.

The BJP and its ally Apna Dal (Sonelal) continued to march ahead of their rivals, leading in 59 of the 80 Lok Sabha seats in Uttar Pradesh, according to the Election Commission trends at 1 pm.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is leading in Varanasi by a huge margin of more than 2.19 lakh votes against Samajwadi Party's (SP) Shalini Yadav -- his nearest rival, the data showed.
The BJP was ahead in 58 seats and the Apna Dal (S) in one. The opposition alliance of the Bahujan Samaj Party and the SP appeared to be doing well in 19 seats.
In Congress bastion Amethi, party president Rahul Gandhi is trailing. Union minister and BJP candidate Smriti Irani has a lead of over 2,600 votes against him.
The initial trends appeared to be mixed for the Yadav clan of the SP, with senior leaders Mulayam Yadav and Akhilesh Yadav maintaining their leads and the latter's cousins and sitting MPs Dharmendra Yadav and Akshay Yadav trailing from Badaun and Firozabad seats respectively.
Is it the end of caste politics in UP?
The alliance that was forged in January this year had claimed to trounce the BJP in Uttar Pradesh and, thereby, halt its return to power. The alliance with less than 20 seats has been left powerless.

Three out of the four Uttar Pradesh cabinet ministers fielded by the BJP are leading, according to the Election Commission trends.
S P Singh Baghel, Rita Bahuguna Joshi and Satyadev Pachauri are leading over their rivals from their respective seats, while Mukut Bihari Verma are trailing in the latest round of counting.
In Agra, Baghel, who is minister for animal husbandry, minor irrigation and fisheries, has polled 71,570 votes as compared to the BSP's Manoj Kumar Soni, who has got 57,370 votes.
