Murder detectives investigating a broad daylight stabbing have released CCTV images of five men they believe could be potential witnesses.

Hassan Ahmed Mohamoud was stabbed in the neck on Bentley Road, in Toxteth, on March 28, in an horrific attack that shocked the local community.

The 29-year-old was taken to hospital after the violent incident but died a short time later.

Merseyside Police today released footage taken from close circuit television of five people (pictured below) they believe could have potentially witnessed the barbaric killing.

A 28-year-old man from Toxteth was arrested on suspicion of murder and has since been detained under the Mental Health Act.

The investigation is ongoing and releasing the images detectives stressed the people pictured are NOT suspected of being involved in the murder.

Detective Chief Inspector Cheryl Rhodes said: “We are keen to speak to the five men pictured as they could be potential witnesses.

"I would like to make it clear that they are not suspected of having any involvement in the offence, and would encourage those pictured, or anyone who knows who they are, to contact us at the earliest opportunity."

She added: "We continue to appeal for anyone with information about the murder of Hassan Ahmed Mohamoud. You may have witnessed the incident, have CCTV or dashcam footage and any information, no matter how small could prove vital to our investigation."

A Post Mortem examination into Hassan's death found that he died from a single stab wound.

In the days after his death, Hassan's friends paid tribute to the much-loved brother and son.

Tributes to the "Gentle Giant" were posted to social media and left at the scene on Bentley Road.
