Kishan Reddy wins, BJP holds on to Secunderabad
The neck-and-neck contest between BJP and TRS in Secunderabad, ended with BJP’s senior leader G Kishan Reddy walking away with the winner’s title. The party’s state president beat his rival Talasani Sai Kiran by a staggering margin of 62,114 votes. Though Reddy, a former three-time MLA from Amberpet assembly constituency, lost his seat in 2018, the party high command still decided to give him a LS ticket.
It’ll be Reddy’s maiden term in Parliament. Exit polls had predicted that it would be sweep for TRS in Secunderabad and mark a successful debut for Sai Kiran, son of Telangana’s animal husbandry minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav. But even though the TRS candidate put up a tough fight — he was found leading in the first few rounds — eventually, even traditional TRS strongholds including Sanathnagar, Khairatabad and Secunderabad, gave BJP the mandate. The BJP also stayed ahead in postal ballot with Reddy polling of 532 votes.
“My priority is to resolve civic issues with the coordination of state and central government agencies. My office at Amberpet will continue to be available to voters to address their grievances. I will use new technology for development of my constituency,” Reddy said. The Congress stood in third position with its candidate Anjan Kumar Yadav managing to garner just about 1,73,229 votes. He had previously won the seat in two consecutive elections — 2004 and 2009.
