Dennis Rodman accused of slapping man during party, Florida police say

Former NBA star Dennis Rodman has been accused of attempted battery after he allegedly slapped a man at Buddha Sky Bar in Delray Beach, Fla., during a May 17 party.

The report was filed by Jeff Soulouque, who said he was invited to the bar by David Lee Roth — not the Roth of Van Halen fame — who was friends with Rodman.

Soulouque told the Delray Police Department he was “hanging out” at the rooftop bar at Atlantic and Railroad avenues and talking to someone standing directly behind Rodman when Rodman “unprovokedly turned around and smacked him.”

According to the police report, Rodman apologized immediately and was “very sentimental,” even inviting Soulouque to an event the next day to make up for the incident. When Soulouque woke up the next day, however, he noticed swelling on the left side of his face and went to police to press charges.

Police later spoke with Roth, who said he was standing at least 20 feet away when he saw Rodman turn around and slap Soulouque twice with an open hand. Roth said he doesn’t know what led Rodman to slap Soulouque.

Rodman’s attorney, Lorne Berkeley, said Rodman was sober the night of May 17. He also said he spoke with people who were at Buddha Sky Bar the night of the party and “no one saw any such incident occur.”

“My sources seem to indicate that what’s in the police report is not true,” Berkeley said, adding that the situation is “very fluid.”

Authorities have attempted to obtain video of the incident from Buddha Sky Bar, but the sole person with access to the footage has been out of town, according to the police report.
