Interestingly, this seat was held by Ch Malla Reddy in 2014, who later joined TRS. He contested as MLA from Medchal and is now a minister in the state cabinet. The TRS decided to field the owner of educational institutes, Rajasekhar Reddy, from Malkajgiri. Rajasekhar Reddy secured majority votes in the initial rounds, especially in assembly constituencies like Medchal, Qutubullapur, Malkajgiri and Secunderabad Cantonment, while Revanth secured maximum votes in Uppal, LB Nagar and Kukatpally assembly constituencies in the later rounds. It was a close contest right till the end.
After Revanth lost from Kodangal in 2018 assembly polls, the party decided to field him from Malkajgiri LS seat keeping in mind the profile of the constituency. It is where people from different parts of the India reside and is referred to as ‘mini India’.
