Maharashtra election results: Junior minister not able to score fourth victory

Minister of state for home Hansraj Ahir, an old-time BJP politician, was defeated by Congress candidate Suresh Dhanorkar in the Chandrapur constituency by a margin of 41,744 votes.

MUMBAI: Minister of state for home Hansraj Ahir, an old-time BJP politician, was defeated by Congress candidate Suresh Dhanorkar in the Chandrapur constituency by a margin of 41,744 votes.
In the results declared on Thursday, Ahir polled 4,03,927 votes while Dhanorkar notched up 4,45,671 votes. A Shiv Sena legislator, Dhanorkar had quit the saffron party and joined the Congress on the day of filing of nominations for the Lok Sabha election.

Ahir has been associated with the BJP for several decades and was elected to the Lok Sabha for three consecutive terms from 2004.
