Conroe ISD receives fine arts award

The National Association of Music Merchants, a foundation that promotes and supports music education, awarded Conroe Independent School District’s fine arts department with another Best Communities for Music Education award.

The award, which the district has received for the last several years, is given to districts that have a budgetary commitment to music, opportunities for students to learn, qualified teachers, adherence to standards and opportunities for performance and competition.

Robert Horton, the district’s fine arts coordinator, explained at Conroe ISD’s monthly board meeting that the district has been recognized for being committed to advancing education through active student participation.

“Of over 15,000 applicants, Conroe ISD was one of 23 in the nation across 43 states to be recognized. Music is alive and well in Texas and especially in Conroe ISD,” Horton said.

Conroe ISD child nutrition and transportation employees recognized

Also at the district’s monthly board meeting, child nutrition and transportation department employees were recognized for their work ethic and commitment to the district’s students.

Robyn Hughes, the district’s child nutrition director, announced that Sergio Velez-Mendoza, Maria Raya, Ana Escribano and Lashondra Fordwill received the awards for being outstanding child nutrition employees.

Sam Davila, the district’s transportation director, distributed awards to Edna Dickey, Richard Smith, Trinia Leveta Johnson, Robin Smith and LaJuana Ingalls for their work in the transportation department.

Lone Star College foundation gala raises more than $400,000

At the Lone Star College Foundation’s gala held earlier this month at The Woodlands Waterway Marriott, the 580 attendees raised more than $430,000. The event included a former student speaker, dinner, a live and silent auction and dancing.

Founded almost 30 years ago, the foundation has provided more than $13 million in scholarships to nearly 13,000 students. It’s aimed at changing lives through student scholarships and educational programs based on relationship building, fundraising and investment management.

Legacy Preparatory Christian Academy graduated class of 2019

At a commencement ceremony held May 17 at the school’s campus along Research Forest Drive in The Woodlands, 39 students graduated in the class of 2019 at Legacy Preparatory Christian Academy. Allison Byrd was the class valedictorian.

In a press release, LPCA Board of Directors Secretary Casey Clark said that the board is incredibly proud of what the graduating students have accomplished.

“As they step in to the next chapter of life and face many challenges to their beliefs, they’re equipped with a solid well-rounded education and are prepared to let their light shine and make a positive impact wherever they go,” Clark said.

Area valedictorians and salutatorians named

Caney Creek High School’s class of 2019 valedictorian is Emily Danielle Fisher and salutatorian is Tori Ann McVey.

At iSchool High The Woodlands, Kate Bache is the valedictorian and Isaiah Phillips is the salutatorian for the class of 2019.

At The John Cooper School, Madeleine Smith was named as the valedictorian for the class of 2019.
