HYDERABAD: Passengers of Secunderabad Railway station took to social media after the station officials failed to arrange a wheelchair for a senior citizen who is also a paralytic patient on Saturday.
Vasanti Shah, a passenger who had to travel with her mother on May 24 from Secunderabad to Mumbai in the LTT Duronto posted on the Ministry of Railways’ Facebook page saying that she reached the station with her mother two hours prior to departure and requested the help desk for a wheelchair but no help was provided to them.

“The help desk person in addition to being unhelpful was also rude. He didn’t know where the wheelchairs are and after half an hour of trying to explain to him that my mother can-not walk, he tells us that there is only one wheelchair and that is taken by some-one else. (sic),” said the post by Shah.
“On a station that has 10 platforms and a reasonably busy schedule, there is only one wheelchair?” Shah questioned. She further stated that even the battery-operated car driver refused to help them saying he cannot take the senior citizen who is a paralytic patient unless she comes to the platform. “How do I bring a paralytic person from the carpark to the platform? In the end, left with no other choice, I had to take my mother on a hand cart used for luggage which was extremely uncomfortable for her and undignified,” Shah said.
In a reply to Shah’s post, another person shared his experience at the Secunderabad railway station and said: “Indeed true, I had an accident in 2016 and I couldn’t walk for almost an year, one day...Upon returning to Secunderabad station we have been told the same by help desk. I faced a lot of problem while coming out of station. Really pathetic.”
