Six persons, including four members of a family, died and seven others were taken ill after they allegedly consumed liquor at their house in Ramnagar area of Barabanki district on Tuesday. The police suspect the liquor was contaminated. The bodies have been sent for autopsy and its report is awaited The victims had purchased liquor from an excise department authorised shop in Barabanki, police said. They began vomiting and complained of stomach pain after consuming the liquor. Locals and family members rushed them to a hospital where five were declared dead. Eight others were referred by a doctor to Lucknow where one died. The other seven are undergoing treatment in Lucknow.
Superintendent of police, Barabanki, Ajay Kumar said an FIR has been lodged against liquor shop owner Danveer Singh, who is yet to be arrested. Kumar added that he suspended Circle officer Ramnagar Pawan Gautam and station house officer of Ramnagar police station Rajesh Kumar The deceased have been identified as Chotte Lal, his three sons Ramesh, Sonu, Mukesh, and neighbour Mahendra. Taking a serious note of the incident, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath directed the District Magistrate and Superintendent of Police of Barabanki to reach the spot and take stern action against the guilty. Chief Minister also directed principal secretary, excise, to conduct an inquiry and take action against all those responsible for it.
