At 47.8° Celsius, Mancherial records highest temperature in Telangana this summer
With the raise in temperature, motorists use different ways to protect themselves from the soaring heat
HYDERABAD: Heatwave conditions continued to grip parts of Telangana, with as many as eight districts recording maximum temperature of above 47° Celsius on Monday.
According to the Telangana State Development Planning Society, Mancherial was the hottest district with a maximum temperature of 47.8° Celsius, followed by Peddapalli at 47.5° Celsius.
Suryapet, Jagtial, Mulugu, Mahabubabad, Karimnagar and Jayashankar Bhupalapally were among the other districts where mercury levels touched 47° Celsius.

In fact, Khammam, Nalgonda, Ramagundam and Adilabad figured in Skymet’s top ten hottest places in the country on Monday.
Weather conditions in other districts were equally bad with the mercury levels touching 43-46° Celsius. At 42.7° Celsius, the maximum temperature in Hyderabad was relatively less. However, the temperature in Medchal-Malkajgiri district, which includes large parts of Secunderabad and Hyderabad, shot to 46.6° Celsius. In Rangareddy, it was recorded 44.8° Celsius.

As per TSDPS figures, from April 1 to May 27, Telangana witnessed as many as 36 heatwave days affecting 205 mandals. Among the most affected districts were Jagtial, Karimnagar, Khammam and Adilabad, which had the highest number of heatwave days.
According to Met department records, the highest temperature ever recorded in Telangana in the last 120 years was 48.6° Celsius in Bhadrachalam on January 29, 1952.
As per Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), Hyderabad, heatwave conditions are likely to prevail till May 31 in isolated pockets in all districts of Telangana. “There is prolonged heatwave conditions for last one month due to northeasterly winds blowing over Telangana which are normally hot in nature. Also, there is no trough or thunderstorm due to which temperatures are soaring,” said Naga Ratna, forecasting hea, IMD, Hyderabad.
Meanwhile, onset of monsoon is expected by mid-June in Telangana, providing relief from the scorching heat.
