Yamaha Music sets up plant in Kancheepuram
Chennai: Yamaha Corporation on Monday announced the opening of a new music instruments factory in Kancheepuram, with an investment of Rs 380 crore on the plant. The unit would produce the full line of musical instruments. “The plant would manufacture musical instruments for the domestic and the international market. We have also released a keyboard that is tuned to produce sounds of Indian musical instruments such aslike harmonium, sitar etc” said Takashi Haga, MD, Yamaha Music India.
Functions like quick sampling, a built-in Tabla/Mridangam; Tanpura function called “Riyaz,” that would help musicians learn how to play songs or traditional Indian “Raga” scales are included in the new keyboard by the name— PSR I500, a statement from the company added.
The company is set to plans planning to work with schools in order to increase sale of instruments. Haga added that the plant currently has a capacity to manufacture 1,50,000 keyboards and 200,000 acoustic guitars a year.
