Mathura: Latvian slaps man who greeted him with ‘Ram, Ram’, stabbed

AGRA: A 40-year-old foreign national was allegedly stabbed in Mathura on Tuesday morning after he slapped a person who repeatedly greeted him, “Ram, Ram”.
According to police, the incident took place around 6:30 am when Dev Vatra, a Latvian national, locally known as Krishnakant, was offering prayers at Khajoor ghat in Radhakund. Another devotee, Rishi Kumar, 28, who was also offering prayers there, greeted Dev twice by saying, “Ram, Ram”.
Instead of responding to him, Dev got annoyed and allegedly slapped Rishi, who hails from Rajasthan’s Karauli area. Rishi allegedly retaliated by stabbing Dev in his neck.
The injured Latvian, was immediately taken to hospital, where doctors administered stitches on his throat and admitted him. According to doctors, the cut was not deep and the victim’s condition is stable.
Police said Dev has been living in Mathura for the past 20 years and has been leading a life of a assadhu.
Talking to reporters, Rishi said he attacked the foreigner with a knife as the latter slapped him publicly for no fault of his. “I had only greeted him, ‘Ram, Ram’,” he said. He had come to Mathura two days ago.
Rajesh Pandey, station house officer of Govardhan police station, said an FIR has been registered under IPC section 307 (attempt to murder) against Rishi Kumar on a complaint filed by Dev.
