MYSURU: A 17-year-old boy has been arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting a four-and-a-half-year-old girl in
Gundlupet in
Chamarajanagar district. The assault took place 20 days ago. It came to light on Wednesday after the girl fell ill and a medical examination revealed the assault.
The boy, booked under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act, has been produced before a juvenile justice board which sent him to a Balamandir.
Police said the boy is aged above 16 and they will treat him like an accused in the case.
Chamarajanagar superintendent of police Dharmender Kumar Meena told TOI: "On Tuesday, the girl complained of
fever and pain. Her grandmother took her to a hospital. A medical examination revealed
sexual assault. Based on the information shared by the child and her family members, the accused has been arrested. An FIR has been registered."
Gundlupet police, who arrested the accused, said the boy lured the girl with his cellphone and allegedly committed the act in his house. "The boy is a neighbour and is known to the girl's family members," said a police officer.
