NASHIK: A five-day mango festival began in the city on Wednesday in order to provide naturally-ripened mangoes directly to the consumers.
The Agriculture Produce Market Committee (APMC), Nashik and Maharashtra State Agriculture Marketing Board (MSAMB) have jointly organised the festival that is being held at the APMC market on Peth Road.
Varieties of mangoes like alphonso, kesar along with other local varieties can be directly bought from the farmers by the consumers.

Around 20 stalls of farmers from Konkan and Nashik have been put up at the festival. "The APMC has organised this festival, while we have given financial assistance for conducting this event," an MSAMB official said.
"The objective is to provide naturally-ripened mangoes directly from farmers to customers so that there are no middlemen and both farmers and consumers will get the price benefit. Consumers also directly get the naturally-ripened and good quality mangoes," he added.
Mangoes of different varieties have arrived in the city and are available in the range from Rs150 to Rs500 per kg. "Last year too, we had organised a mango festival in the city during which mangoes worth Rs10 lakh were sold," the official said.
