Ramco Cements, which is in the midst of a massive capacity expansion, has introduced what it calls India’s first crack-resistant premium blended cement – Ramco Supercrete —, as the company seeks to graduate from a cement-maker to a cement solution provider.
Ramco Supercrete, priced at ₹450 per bag, addresses the need for high strength concrete and promises the advantage of durability. It is also compatible with m-sand.
“The problem with ordinary Portland cement is that it has a tendency to crack due to the high heat of hydration. Supercrete will completely eliminate the possibility of cracks,” said Balaji K Moorthy, Executive President-Marketing, Ramco Cements.
“Supercrete cement will be produced at our Ariyalur factory and will be supplied to demand centres in the south. For meeting the demand in other regions, we may look at producing this in Andhra Pradesh,” said P R Venketrama Raja, Chairman and Managing Director, Ramco Cements.
The company expects about 20 per cent of volumes to come from premium products such as Supercrete. “Since the south has been battling with excess cement capacity, the only way we can succeed in marketing is to offer the right product for the right application. With the help of our own R&D and manufacturing teams, we have come out with this crack-free cement,” said A V Dharmakrishnan, Chief Executive Officer, Ramco Cements at the launch.
The company has its R&D operations in Chennai.
