ASIA/INDIA - Appointment of the Bishop of Gwalior

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - The Holy Father Francis has appointed Rev. Joseph Thykkattil, of the clergy of the Archdiocese of Agra, currently parish priest of St. Peter in Bharatpur, as Bishop of the Diocese of Gwalior (India).
The newly-elected Bishop was born on February 14, 1952 in Enamakkal in Kerala. He attended the Minor Seminary of San Lorenzo in Agra. He carried out his priestly formation at the Regional Seminary of St. Joseph in Allahabad. He was ordained a priest on April 25, 1988 for the Archdiocese of Agra. He was Vice Dean of the College of St. Peter in Agra (1988-1990). Subsequently, he was parish priest of the Cathedral of Agra (1990-1999), then parish priest in Noida (1999-2002). In the years 2002-2009 he was Rector of the Minor Seminary of San Lorenzo and Parish Priest in Mathura from 2009 until 2012. Since 2012 he was Vicar General of the Archdiocese of Agra.
