Party workers hospitalised after using ‘Gulaal’ for victory celebrations

Bengaluru: Gulaal or color mixed with unknown acidic substance resulted in face burns of 15 BJP workers who were rushed to hospital after they complained of burns soon after they used it to celebrate the victory.

The incident is reported from Karnataka’s Haveri district were rushed to hospital after the workers used the gulaal to celebrate the party’s victory in the local body elections.

Polling was conducted across 63 Urban Local bodies (ULBs) in Karnataka on May 29 in which BJP had an upper hand as per pollsters.

However, Congress has won most of the seats in the May 29 elections in the state securing 509 out of a total 1221 seats followed by BJP that secured 366 wins while Janata Dal (Secular) won 174 seats.

The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) bagged three while the Communist Party of India (Marxist) two and 160 seats were won by Independents.

Speaking of local body elections, Congress and JD(S) which rule the state together contested separately. While Congress secured 90 out of a total 217 municipality seats BJP secured 56 and JD(Secular) won.
