Aligarh police on Sunday arrested 50-year-old Prem Singh
AGRA: Aligarh police on Sunday arrested 50-year-old Prem Singh for murdering his 15-year-old daughter with the help of his 25-year-old son. Singh was not happy about his daughter’s relationship with a 40-year-old married man belonging a different caste. After failing to talk her out of it, he strangled her to death. Police are also on the lookout for Singh’s son.
According to police, the partially-burnt body of the girl, later identified as Shweta, was found almost 5 km from her home on May 30.
During investigation, police learnt that though Shweta had been missing from Inayatpur village, under Atrauli police jurisdiction, no complaint had been lodged by her family members.
Police detained the girl’s father, Prem Singh, who confessed to killing his daughter during interrogation. According to police, one Brijesh Kashyap from a neighbouring village used to visit Singh’s place and had developed a relationship with his daughter. He asked Shweta to stay away from Kashyap but she wouldn’t listen and insisted on getting married to him. In a fit of rage, Singh choked his daughter using a plastic cord on May 29 night. His son Pradeep, who is absconding, was also involved.
After killing his daughter, he put her body in a sack and set it on fire. However, the body was burnt only partially, said police.Singh told police that while his family belonged to a Scheduled Caste (SC), Kashyap was an OBC.
Talking to TOI, station house officer (SHO), Atrauli police station, RK Singh said that a case had been registered under section 302 (Murder) and 201 (Causing disappearance of evidence of offence, or giving false information to screen offender) of the IPC. Prem Singh has been sent to judicial custody and a search is on for his son Pradeep.
