HOWRAH: A mango grower in Howrah was killed after falling from a tree and being impaled on a bamboo pole on Saturday morning. Ganesh Hauli, 50, died before he could be taken to a health centre.
Hauli, a resident of Piplai in Howrah's Domjur, had taken a mango orchard in Jagadishpur on lease where he went to pluck mangoes on Saturday. "Hauli normally supervised the job while labourers plucked mangoes and packed them in bags.
On Saturday, he decided to climb a tree himself," said Ramesh Sarkar, the orchard owner.
Hauli stepped on a weak branch, which broke and he fell into a bamboo thicket. A bamboo pole pierced his throat. He succumbed to the injury on the way to Domjur Primary Health Centre.
