Thiruvananthapuram: 24-year-old Latheesha Ansari of Kottayam is a shining example of the saying ‘where there is a will, there is a way.’
Diagnosed with ‘type II Osteogenesis Imperfecta’ (brittle bone disease) after birth coupled with pulmonary hypertension, a determined Latheesha on Sunday appeared for the highly coveted Preliminary Civil Services examination conducted by the Union Public Service Commission on a wheel chair and a portable oxygen cylinder besides her.
Latheesha requires external oxygen support to keep her condition under control. And all thanks to Kottayam District Collector P R Sudheer Babu because of whose intervention, a portable oxygen concentrator was provided to her in the examination hall.
A video of Latheesha’s story of determination has now gone viral on social media. In the video, she is seen seated inside the examination hall with an oxygen cylinder at the back of her seat.

The hard-working M. Com graduate competed in the general quota and has chosen Malayalam as the optional subject for the examination.
Latheesha told leading news agency that she has been preparing for the UPSC for one and a half year found the paper easy and is hopeful of cracking the India’s toughest most filtered examination.
“The paper was easy, and I hope and pray that I clear it,” said Latheesha adding “I am determined to crack this examination because that would inspire many others like me to do it too,” reported IndiaTimes.
Latheesha’s father, according to NDTV, runs a small eatery spend around Rs. 25,000 every month for his daughter’s medical and supportive care.
The preliminary examination for the Indian Administrative Services (IAS) is conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) here on Sunday to fill up 896 vacancies.
