PATNA: Police rescued 13-year-old Rajat Kumar from Naugachhia in Bhagalpur district on Monday, three days after he was kidnapped for ransom from Deedarganj police station area in the state capital. The kidnappers had allegedly demanded Rs6 lakh as ransom for the victim’s safe release.
The victim’s father, Ranjeet Kumar, had lodged a case with the Deedarganj police station on May 31 alleging that his son was kidnapped by motorbike-borne criminals when he had gone to buy chicken from a nearby shop.
Rajat was accompanied by his friend Rajesh Kumar, who later informed the victim’s father about the kidnapping.
Ranjeet received a ransom call on his mobile phone around 9.53pm the same day when he was stepping out of the police station where he had gone to inquire into the matter. He told the investigators that the anonymous caller, who revealed that his son had been kidnapped, demanded Rs6 lakh as ransom and asked him not to inform the police.
The Patna police officials, however, kept the matter under wraps for three days. On Monday, a Patna police team traced the victim at a village under the Kharik police station area at Naugachhia in Bhagalpur district and rescued the captive from the clutches of his kidnappers. Fatuha SDPO, however, said they were close to solve the case.
Naugachhia SP Nidhi Rani confirmed the recovery of the boy kidnapped from Deedarganj police station area three days ago. “We cooperated with the Patna police team in the investigating and ensured safe recovery of the captive,” the SP told this newspaper over phone from Naugachhia.
Nidhi, however, refused to share more details on the plea that the case was related to the Patna police. “It will not be prudent to share more details such as involvement of the gang and its modus operandi as the place of occurrence falls under the jurisdiction of Patna police,” she added.
In the FIR, the victim’s father had apprehended the involvement of his neighbours, Ranjeet Choudhary and Shiv Shankar Yadav, who had earlier threatened him of dire consequences.
