GHAZIABAD: A couple and their infant daughter were injured after the motorcycle they were riding collided with a pick-up van on a flyover in Kotwali area on Tuesday morning.
Under the impact of the collision, the four-month-old child slipped off her mother’s hands and fell 10ft below the flyover. She has been kept under observation as there were not any visible injuries except for some minor bruises on the head.
The woman suffered injuries on the head, while both legs of her husband were fractured.
The accident took place around 10am towards the end of the Thakurdwara flyover. Manoj Kumar, a driver and resident of Loni’s Indrapuri colony, was on a bike along with his wife Parvesh and two daughters — Cherry (three years) and four-month-old Lalita. They were going to a relative’s place in Bulandshahr.
Manoj alleged that the pick-up van was coming from the wrong side at high speed and hit the motorcycle head-on after which he lost control of his bike and fell to the ground. Pravesh and Cherry hit the ground and lost consciousness, but Lalita toppled over the flyover and fell below. Fortunately, Lalita was not hit by a vehicle on the road below, which remains congested through the day. Had the accident taken place somewhere near the mid-point of the flyover, the kid would have fallen from a much greater height.
Passersby rushed to Lalita’s rescue and heaved a sigh of relief finding the girl conscious. Cherry, too, suffered some minor injuries. Lalita and her family members were rushed to the MMG District Hospital. Doctors found Lalita’s vital signs normal, but said there was a swelling on the back of her head. She was recommended a check-up by a neurophysician.
Jaikaran Singh, the SHO, Kotwali police station, said the van driver was booked for endangering lives.
