Nalanda boy ranks 32nd as over 44,000 from Bihar qualify NEET

Nalanda boy Gautam Kumar has secured All India Rank (AIR) 32 in the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET), the results of which were announced by the National Testing Agency (NTA) on Wednesday.

PATNA: Nalanda boy Gautam Kumar has secured All India Rank (AIR) 32 in the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET), the results of which were announced by the National Testing Agency (NTA) on Wednesday.
Of total 720 marks, Gautam scored 687, including 171 (total marks 180) in physics, 175 in chemistry (18) and 341 in biology (360). He secured a percentile of 99.997.
A delighted Gautam told this newspaper that he qualified the exam in the first shot.
“The medical field always fascinates me as the doctors save patients with their education. For me, a doctor is the second God. We have enough engineers and it is time the country needs some good doctors,” he said.
Born to Rajnish Kumar and homemaker Ruby Devi from Sare, 20km from Biharsharif in Nalanda, Gautam wants to pursue his career in cardiology. “I am waiting for the AIIMS entrance examination results likely to be announced by next week. I will prefer admission in AIIMS Delhi or Maulana Azad Medical College, New Delhi, on the basis of my score in NEET,” he said.
The 18-year-old boy completed his Intermediate from Manas Vidyalaya, Jehanabad, and secured 93%. He studied 11 hours per day for the medical entrance exam and also prepared for Class XII board exam.
As per information available on NTA official website, total 44,092 out of 76,536 candidates appearing from Bihar qualified the NEET. The test was conducted in around 136 cities in 11 languages between May 5 and May 10 for admission to MBBS and BDS courses in colleges run with the approval of the Medical Council of India (MCI) and the Dental Council of India (DCI).

Bihar has recorded the pass percentage of 57.61%. The pass percentage in NEET has declined by 2.51% compared to last year’s 60.15%.
Kumar Ritwik of Patna ranked 187 in OBC category by securing 652 out of 720 marks. He has passed Class XII from St Michael’s High School, Patna.
Aashi Sinha, a candidate with physical disability, has secured fourth position in that category. The girl scored 542 out of total 720 marks and got 98.04 percentile. She stood at AIR 27,479.
The cutoff for admissions in MBBS and BDS courses in medical colleges is increased by 11.1% compared to last year. For general category, the cutoff is 134 and the qualifying scores range from 701 to 134. The cutoff for SC, ST and OBC candidates is 107 to 133. For candidates with disabilities in the general category, the cutoff is 120 to 133. For candidates with disabilities in the SC, ST and OBC categories, the cutoff is 107 to 119.
