Aligarh child murder: Hindu woman saves Muslim family from mob

A 24-year-old woman saved a Muslim family from getting attacked by a mob on Sunday. Unrest prevails in Uttar Pradesh’s Aligarh district after the killing of a two-year-old girl.

India Today with reference to PTI, reported that the family from Ballabhgarh, Haryana, was travelling in a van to attend an engagement. They were accompanied by a woman named Puja Chauhan, who was a close family friend. According to one of the travelers, Shafi Mohammad Abbasi, the goons on motorcycles attacked the van with iron rods in Jattari area, over 40 km from here.

India Today has quoted him as saying, “They would have killed us had not Puja Chauhan, who is like my daughter, stepped out of the van and came between us and the attackers.”

The attackers who were all wearing saffron scarfs identified the travelers since some of the women were wearing veils and attacked them.

Puja boldly confronted the attackers and asked them: “Why are you venting your anger on innocent persons?” She said they were equally shocked by the killing of the two-and-half-year-old girl.

On hearing Chouhan’s plea, one member from the mob appeared to have softened his stand. He handed the family their car keys and ran away.

Congress leader and former Aligarh legislator Haji Zamirullah Khan lauded Puja’s move and dubbed her a role model as a citizen of our country. He condemned the attempt to polarise society by exploiting the incident which has shocked one and all irrespective of their religion.

Two-and-a-half-year-old Twinkle Sharma was killed in a gruesome manner in Aligarh. The body of the girl was found in a garbage dump on June 2, three days after she was reported missing.
