Bhagalpur: Drunk man found hanging in lock-up

BHAGALPUR: One Dilkhus Kumar (28), who was arrested on charges of consuming liquor, was found hanging in the lock-up with a cotton towel (gamcha) wrapped around his neck, at Kahalgaon police station on Sunday.
The deceased was the son of an ASI posted in Jharkhand. A resident of Jam Mohammadpur village under Kahalgaon, Dilkhus was arrested after his family members lodged a complaint with the police that he often used to beat them up including his mother in inebriated condition.Both medical examination and breathalyser confirmed that the youth had consumed liquor when he was arrested on Sunday.
Consequently, he was sent to Kahalgaon police station. However, around an hour later, Dilkush was found hanging from the ceiling of the haajat room.
Bhagalpur SSP Ashish Bharti said the deceased was arrested following a complaint lodged by his mother. “The body has been sent for postmortem. Kahalgaon DSP has been asked to probe the incident,” the SSP added.
Sources said that police are inquiring into reports doing rounds that a friend of the deceased had provided him a towel to use it when he had gone to meet him at the police station.
