Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan released the progress report on the three-year performance of his government here on Monday, reiterating that the CPI(M)-led LDF government has been successful in ushering in the promised change.

Handing over the first copy of the report, which also marks the start of the government’s fourth year in office, to Speaker P. Sreeramakrishnan, the Chief Minister said that the LDF government could replace the moral decay brought about by UDF rule with a new culture and the high values befitting the State.

Infrastructure

On the infrastructure front, the government expected to complete the 585-km inland waterway linking Kovalam to Bekal by 2020, the Chief Minister said. The GAIL pipeline also would be inaugurated soon. The ₹10,000-crore hill highway and coastal highway projects, funded through KIIFB, would be completed in a time-bound manner.

The government had also succeeded in finding adequate land for National Highway development, he said. The government had initiated steps to build a semi hi-speed rail corridor enabling travel between Thiruvananthapuram and Kasaragod in four hours, the Chief Minister said.

He further added that the Civil Aviation secretary had agreed to hold discussions with airline representatives and other stakeholders for the development of the Thiruvananthapuram airport. The meeting would be held in Thiruvananthapuram after the Parliament session in July. On the move to privatise the airport, he reiterated that private companies would not get any support or assistance from the State government.

More students

So far this year, 1.41 lakh students had newly enrolled in State schools. During the past two years, 3.48 lakh students had left other streams to join State schools in classes other than the first standard, he said.

Apart from giving the implementation status of electoral promises, the report also lists rescue and relief operations during the 2018 floods, the Rebuild Kerala initiative, and the recognitions and accolades won by the state.

Revenue Minister E. Chandrasekharan presided over the function. Ministers, Mayor V.K. Prashant, District Panchayat president V.K. Madhu, and Chief Secretary Tom Jose also were present.
