AGRA: In a case of suspected honour killing, a couple was murdered and then hanged to a tree in UP's Etah district. After the incident, girl’s parents were found absconding.
The couple’s body was found on Tuesday early morning in a field of Ladampur Katara village of Nayagaon police jurisdiction. The deceased were identified as Satya Prakash Singh Yadav (23) of Kayampur village of Sakeet police jurisdiction and Pooja Yadav (20) of Ladampur Katara village.
The bodies were sent for autopsy by police and a probe has been initiated.

Speaking to TOI, Ajay Bhadauria, circle officer of Aliganj said, “Prima facie it purely looks a cold blooded murder, but why the two were killed, that’s the question whose answer we are now probing for. After the incident, girl’s father Brijesh Yadav and other immediate family members are absconding, while the boy’s parents are at mortuary to receive their son’s body.”
“An FIR will be registered once we receive a written complaint,” he said.
“We were at home when someone informed us about Pooja’s body hanging along with another boy from a tree in farm field. We immediately called cops, but Pooja’s parents and other family members were missing after the incident,” said Sudip Yadav, girl's cousin.
According to local sources, Pooja and Satya Prakash were in relationship for a long time and wanted to get married, but the girl’s family was against the relationship. Few weeks back the two had even eloped, but returned after they were assured to be wedded by Pooja’s family, but the girl was taken to her maternal mother’s house and was put in confinement.
“Couple of days back she returned to Ladampur Katara village, and probably on Monday Satya Prakash too came to her house to meet her, after which they were murdered by family members,” said an official source.
A recent data of such nature of cases revealed that in last 13 months 10 suspected honour killings were reported in districts of Western UP.
