The police have arrested a gang of five during a vehicle check near Natham Taluk police station

Following a complaint of cell phone theft from Kumar of S. Kodai at the Sanarpatti station a couple of days ago that a gang in two bikes had snatched his mobile phone while he was walking near Othakadai bridge on Natham – Dindigul Road, a team was formed.

It nabbed construction labourers Ajay, 22, Siva, 22, Periyasamy, 22, Arulmurugan, 22, Stalin, 25 and a minor boy, and recovered 30 cell phones and a drone camera, said T. Sekar, Inspector, Natham. They belong to villages near Melur and Natham. They have been found to be habitual offenders. Their modus operandi was to waylay lone walkers or motorcyclists and rob them cell phones and two-wheelers. Either they snatch cell phone and run away or ask for the phone pretending to make an emergency call and flee with it.

“We have recovered two bikes that they had stolen in Ramanathapuram. They seemed to have stolen the drone from a function,” he added
