The third edition of Uzhave Thalai , an agriculture conclave, is scheduled here on June 15.

The one-day conclave, mooted by the Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Coimbatore (ICCIC), aims to demystify agricultural science, said N Manisundar, an organic agriculturist.

Manisundar is the mentor, adviser and co-ordinator of the event.

V Lakshminarayanasamy, President, ICCIC, said that the Chamber initiated this event to attract new entrants to take up farming, in a small but meaningful way.

At the maiden conclave in 2017, the Chamber roped in 17 farmers to share their success stories. “Many youngsters, who had arable land but had not practised farming, were enthused and drawn to farming. Since then, the number of people practising organic farming has gone up, with many housewives taking to roof-top kitchen garden and the like,” the ICCIC President said.

At the second edition of Uzhave Thalai , the focus was more on water conservation and integrated farming practices.

The event this year is expected to focus on soil health and organic inputs, resilient and sustainable farm design and economics in farming, and integrated pest management. The organisers are expecting close to 350 farmers to attend the sessions this year.

G Sivaraman, Siddha Practitioner, Arogya Healthcare Chennai is to be the Chief Guest.
