PATNA: Purnia University is set to hold entrance test for admission of students to the three-year-degree courses in arts, science and commerce from the current academic session. The entrance test will be held on June 30.
Giving details of the initiative, Purnia University vice-chancellor Rajesh Singh said that more than 80,000 students have applied for admission on about 42,000 sanctioned seats this year.
The university has already introduced the University Management Information System (UMIS) and started online admission. The applicants will be shortlisted for admission in different constituent and affiliated colleges of the university on the basis of their performance in written test, he said.
He said that last year a number of seats remained vacant as several candidates failed to secure their admission made though Online Facilitation System For Students (OFSS) conducted by the Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB). Only 28, 800 students could be admitted to Degree Part-I last year.
This year, students from foreign countries like Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh and neighbouring states of Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal and Assam are also seeking admission to various courses of the university. A number of new courses suited to the needs of the youth of Kosi region are also to be introduced this year, he said.
The VC released the results of Part I honours examinations much before the scheduled date of publication. Altogether 25,564 students passed the examination. The pass percentage in the faculties of commerce, arts and science was 94, 84 and 61 respectively.
Releasing the examination results in presence of pro-VC Rajnath Yadav, registrar Jitendra Bharadwaj, and examination controller, the vice-chancellor said that early publication of results could be possible only through team effort of officials and staff.
“The university, which has successfully organised a north Bihar conclave on higher education in February this year, is organising a global congress on biotechnology and crop science on June 28, 29 and 30 in Darjeeling, on July 2, 3 and 4 at Purnia and July 5, 6 and 7 in Sikkim. Eminent scholars from India and neighbouring countries are likely to attend the congress,” the VC added.
