Schools in Kalaburagi, Yadgir reopen early as rain brings relief
BENGALURU: With rain cooling down several parts of north Karnataka, schools in the region reopened on June 10. Earlier, the government had passed an order to extend the summer holidays till June 14.
While schools elsewhere in the state reopened on May 29, officials from the education department in Kalaburagi and Yadgir districts sought more time as the temperature hovered around 45 degrees Celsius. The matter was discussed at a state-level meeting of the deputy directors of the education department on May 27, following which the government passed an order, fixing the date on June 14.
However, early showers in the region pulled the mercury down and officials decided to reopen schools on June 10.
“Now, the maximum temperature in the region is around 35 degrees Celsius. The officials held a meeting and decided to advance the reopening dates. This will save working days and other holidays too,” said an official from the department of primary education.
Another official from Kalaburagi said the extension of summer holidays was a wise move as the heat was unbearable. “It could have affected the health of schoolchildren. The extra holidays will be adjusted by working on Saturdays and other vacation holidays,” he added.
