VIJAYAWADA: A 19-year-old man was critically injured after Chilkaluripet MLA Vidadala Rajini’s car hit his bike at Nidamarru in Guntur district on Thursday. The victim, identified as M Naveen (19), is from Bapuji Nagar.
Locals alleged Rajini did not stop to help the victim, who was severely injured and had lost consciousness. Rather, she left with her gunmen in an autorickshaw to participate in the Speaker’s election, said locals who shifted the youth to a nearby hospital.
Mangalagiri rural cops rushed to the spot after they received information from Rajini’s staff and was redirected to the private hospital where the youth was being treated.
Police said Naveen’s condition was critical as he sustained severe head injuries.
The police added that they found out an MLA’s car was involved in the accident only after they reached the spot. “We have registered a case against the driver,” they said.
When TOI contacted Rajini, she did not answer her phone.
