With the arrival of summer, Qatar Foundation (QF) has lined up an array of family-friendly, community-focused activities that offer something for everyone to enjoy over the coming months – from sport and fitness classes to cookery, camps, competitions, and concerts.

Through a collaboration with the National Tourism Council (NTC), QF is providing summer activities at Education City that cater for all tastes, interests, and audiences, giving adults and children alike the chance to stay entertained and active over the holiday period.

QF’s summer program reflects the diversity, vibrancy, and inclusivity of its Education City environment, where facilities and spaces are open for the entire community of Qatar – and visitors to the country – to discover for relaxation, physical activity, learning, and social interaction.

It starts on June 16 with the Community Summer Camp, an academic enrichment program for children aged 4-6 and 7-12 that blends learning and fun, and will run until August 8. However, the range of activities organized by QF Community Development that are open for the public to explore and enjoy – at venues including the QF Recreation Center, Education City Clubhouse, the Awsaj multipurpose court and swimming pool, and Multaqa (Education City Student Center) – stretches far wider.

QF’s Pre-University Education will be holding its Mukhayamna Summer Camp 2019 from June 23-July 18, at Awsaj Academy, Qatar Academy Al Khor, and Qatar Academy Al Wakra. Open to children aged 3-14, the camp aims to promote character-building qualities while allowing students to explore their talents and sharpen their skills, through a series of STEM programs and recreational activities.

Summer sport and fitness opportunities at QF include the Education City Summer Swimming Camp and ‘Family Fun Time’ swimming sessions; tennis, squash, volleyball, basketball, and badminton activities; aqua yoga sessions; men’s and women’s table tennis, billiards, and bowling tournaments; and a snooker and darts competition. Meanwhile, personal training sessions will give people the chance to stay in shape over the summer, and zumba classes are available for ladies to join.

A family cooking class will help children and parents improve their diet and understand the influence of food on their lives, while those looking to exercise their creativity can participate in experimental art and fabric-painting classes, and a ‘Be A Birdwatcher’ activity provides a chance to get closer to nature. Younger members of the Qatar community can also join a PS4 gaming tournament, and a course where they will learn how to build their own robot.

From July 2-5, the Education City Clubhouse will be the venue for ‘Summer of Learning’, an interactive program offering a variety of experiments and activities within the world of science and technology. Multaqa will host the first edition of QF member Qatar Career Development Center’s ‘Career Academy’ from June 30-July 11, where high school students will take an educational journey that helps them set their sights on their future career ; while QF partner university Virginia Commonwealth University School of the Arts in Qatar’s Summer Art and Design Program is offering a variety of creative activities for students.

Oxygen Park – an open space for sport, fitness, and leisure within Education City, with covered air-conditioned walkways to keep visitors cool – will host weekly ladies-only evenings, including free sport activities, from 6-10pm every Monday during the summer, starting on June 17; and movie nights in collaboration with Doha Film Institute every Thursday from June 20, taking place from 7-9pm and open to all.

Culture also has a central role in QF’s summer program, with QF member Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra hosting ‘Philharmonic At The Library: Music For The Kings’ at Qatar National Library on June 21, and ‘Tchaikovsky’s First Piano Concerto’ at Katara Opera House on June 22.

“The diverse and exciting range of activities we have organized over the summer months demonstrates QF’s commitment to being at the heart of community life in Qatar, and to providing everyone – residents and visitors alike – with a warm, open welcome and an enjoyable, memorable experience,” said Mr. Mohammed Fakhroo, Executive Director of Outreach and Institutional Advancement, QF.

“Whether you are looking to play sport, keep fit, learn a new skill, have fun as a family, or simply want to explore Education City and all it has to offer, QF’s summer program offers something for you. Through the activities we have arranged over the coming months, we are looking forward to bringing people of all ages and nationalities together to participate, interact, and spend part of their summer with us, and we are delighted to be collaborating with the National Tourism Council to support and promote the vibrancy of Qatar.”

The Education City Summer Membership Program is a special offer that ensures the community can make the most of QF’s facilities and activities over the summer months. Membership packages are available for individuals, couples, and families, and more details can be found at www.qf.org.qa/ECSummerMembership
