BAREILLY: Launching a crackdown on liquor mafia, police on Sunday seized as many as 217 cartons of illicit liquor in Sambhal and arrested an accused.
According to police, the estimated cost of the seized Haryana-made liquor is around Rs 2 lakh, the sale of which is prohibited in Uttar Pradesh. The arrested man has been identified as Shyamraj Singh.
Chandausi circle officer Poonam Mishra said after receiving a tip-off that truck container carrying illicit liquor in huge quantity would pass through Chandausi, police had taken position near Majhavali crossing in Behjoi.

“We have seized 217 cartons of Haryana-made illicit liquor, the cost of which is around Rs 2 lakh. An FIR under relevant sections of the Excise Act was registered,” said CO.
