Body of missing eight-year-old girl found in Narela park

An eight-year-old girl, who had gone missing from near her home three days ago, was found murdered in a park in outer Delhi’s Narela on Sunday evening. It is being probed if the girl was sexually assaulted.

NEW DELHI: An eight-year-old girl, who had gone missing from near her home three days ago, was found murdered in a park in outer Delhi’s Narela on Sunday evening. It is being probed if the girl was sexually assaulted.

Police said the body was found at a corner of the park, which is near her house. An autopsy has been conducted.
The investigation so far has revealed that the child had gone missing on Thursday evening.
Her parents told the police that she had left home to go to a nearby shop but didn’t return.
Police said initially, the family tried to look for the child themselves. When the search revealed nothing, they filed a missing complaint at Narela police station the following day. A case of kidnapping was registered.
On Sunday evening, some locals spotted the body lying in the park and alerted the police. Subsequently, the body was taken to a hospital and a murder charge was added to the FIR.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (outer-north) Gaurav Sharma said multiple teams have been formed and a few suspects are being questioned.

Police are also speaking to the family members and other relatives to find out if they suspect anyone to be behind this, or if they have enemies.
Police teams have obtained CCTV camera footage of the stretch to determine the movements of the girl and to check if there was any suspicious movement of any stranger as well during the time in which the child was away. Police are also taking help of local informers.
Delhi Commission for Women also took suo motu cognisance of the crime and have asked the police to submit a report. DCW chief Swati Maliwal tweeted the notice in which it was mentioned that DCW members met with the family members of the victim.
