Temperatures in SA plummet below zero | Rain expected tomorrow

South Australia has woken up to some icy temperatures this morning, with some places plummeting well below zero.

Parafield in Adelaide's north plunged down to 1.7C at midnight, while Renmark was sitting at -2.4C just before 7.30am.

The coldest was Yunta, where it dropped to -2.7C just after 7.15am.

At the same time, it was also below freezing point in Nuriootpa at -1.1C, as well as Clare (-1.9C) and Padthaway (-1.8C).

It has prompted a frost warning from the weather bureau for the Riverland.

"Temperatures at ground level can be many degrees lower than those recorded by standard weather stations, especially in calm conditions with clear skies," the alert says.

Tomorrow will be slightly colder with a maximum of just 12C forecast, but there's a much higher chance of rain as shower activity forms over the Eyre Peninsula.

The weather bureau says there is a 90 per cent chance of rain, with falls possibly reaching 10mm in Adelaide.

Senior forecaster Vince Rowlands says temperatures will warm up slightly next week.
