Inter Milan and Atletico Madrid lead the chase for Ryan Bertrand as Southampton look to cash in

  • Southampton appear ready to cash in on Ryan Bertrand this summer
  • The England defender has only two years remaining on his contract
  • Saints are ready to promote Matt Targett to first-choice left-back

Inter Milan and Atletico Madrid are ready to move for Southampton full-back Ryan Bertrand as the south coast club appear ready to cash in on the 29-year-old this summer.

Southampton twice told Manchester City that Bertrand was not for sale in 2017 and 2018 but as the left-back only has two years left on his contract, they are now expected to allow the defender to leave the club and promote Matt Targett to first-choice.

Atletico are pursuing left-back options following the departure of Lucas Hernandez to Bayern Munich while Inter are scouring the English market under new boss Antonio Conte.

Southampton are expected to demand around £15m but Atletico and Inter are both hopeful a deal can be struck for Bertrand for less than £10m.

Bertrand, who lifted the Champions League with Chelsea in 2012, impressed during the Saints' revival under the stewardship of Ralph Hasenhuttl but lost the captain's armband during Mark Hughes' time in charge.
