PATNA: The doctors at Sri Krishna Medical College and Hospital (SKMCH) in
Muzaffarpur heaved a sigh of relief as no child died due to acute
encephalitis syndrome (AES) since Sunday evening. However, five new cases were admitted on Monday — four at the SKMCH and one at Kejriwal Matri Sadan (KMS).
“Five new cases from Minapur in Muzaffarpur, Sheohar and Chakia in East Champaran districts were admitted today.
While four of them are undergoing treatment at the SKMCH, the fifth one has been admitted to KMS. There has been no report of any casualty since Sunday evening,” Muzaffarpur civil surgeon Shailesh Prasad Singh said.
He said the death toll remained at 152. The condition of two patients at the SKMCH and one at the KMS was stated to be serious. “All the three serious patients are under the observation of medical experts,” he told this newspaper over phone.
Meanwhile, a team of officials comprising the civil surgeon and senior deputy collector Monika Thakur visited the Mahadalit Tola under Marwan block in
Muzaffarpur district to create awareness among the members of this economically backward community. Similar campaign was also launched in Kanti, Mushahari and Minapur blocks in Muzaffarpur district.
The number of AES patients has drastically reduced following the rainfall on Saturday. Altogether 43 patients were undergoing treatment at the SKMCH and seven at the KMS, the civil surgeon added.
