Coimbatore: Child found dead in well

Even as police was alerted, on Monday morning, the baby was found floating in an open abandoned well near their house.

Coimbatore: The city police have launched a search for the offender who murdered a two-and-a-half year old girl baby and disposed off her body in an open well near Vilankuruchi in suburbs of Coimbatore.

Police, said Kanaga Raj native of Annur-Kariyagoundanur recently migrated to Vilankuruchi with his wife Kanchana and their baby Amrutha.

On Sunday night, few guests arrived at their home. After dinner few of them were sleeping inside the house and the rest outside, even as Kanaga Raj along with his wife and baby were sleeping inside their room. Around 2 am on Monday Kanchana had fed her baby and went back to sleep. Around 3.45 am Kanchana noticed her baby was missing and she screamed for help.

Even as police was alerted, on Monday morning, the baby was found floating in an open abandoned well near their house. Her parents retrieved and rushed the baby to a nearby hospital where doctor declared the child as brought dead. Police suspect murder.

Peelamedu police inspector Siva Kumar lodged a complaint and started investigation. The body was sent to Coimbatore Medical College Hospital (CMCH) for post-mortem. Preliminary investigations revealed that the baby was murdered and thrown inside the well. A special team has been formed and further investigations are on.
