UP: Two held with 50 kg of ganja in Mathura

The Mathura police arrested two persons for allegedly carrying 50 kg of weed (Ganja) worth Rs five lakh after a brief encounter on Monday night. The contraband was being smuggled from Haryana’s Palwal district to Mathura.

AGRA: The Mathura police arrested two persons for allegedly carrying 50 kg of weed (Ganja) worth Rs five lakh after a brief encounter on Monday night. The contraband was being smuggled from Haryana’s Palwal district to Mathura.
According to police, the accused, Raju Bansal and Laxman Baghel, who hail from Mathura, had confessed that they used to supply ganja at various places in the city after procuring it from Palwal.

Last night during vehicle checking around 11 PM, they intercepted an i10 car at Shergarh crossing on NH-2 in which the accused were travelling. The suspects tried to escape and fired on the police. In retaliation, police also fired back and nabbed both of them, said the police.
The police seized the contraband worth Rs 5 lakh along with a country-made pistol from the car, and Rs 55,500 cash from the possession of the accused.
A case has been registered under relevant sections and the investigation is on.
