NEW DELHI: Investigations in the triple murder case of a senior citizen couple and their medical attendant in south Delhi’s Vasant Vihar have revealed that robbery may not have been the primary motive for the crime.
The probe is hovering around two theories, robbery and the involvement of a male friend of the medical attendant, Khushbu, as she was stabbed two dozen times indicating a quest for vengeance and extreme hatred.

The initial autopsy findings show that 79-year-old Vishnu Mathur died of internal bleeding after being stabbed, probably with an ice pick, near his neck twice. Similarly, there were two stab wounds on the neck of his wife, Shashi Mathur (75), who was found lying next to him on their bed. Police suspect that Khushbu was the primary target and the senior citizen couple was killed to avoid leaving any witnesses.
Khushbu’s family members are being quizzed about her relationship with a male friend who had contacted her after she started working with the Mathurs last August. The two had met on Facebook, but it was found that the man lives nearby. During questioning, he told police that he had come to the flat on multiple occasions to meet Khushbu. He was asked about his whereabouts on Saturday and Sunday and the alibi given by him is being cross-checked with his woman friend who lives with him.

CCTV footage of the society and connecting roads showed that the killers left on a black Bajaj Pulsar motorcycle at 2.30am on Sunday. The cameras, however, failed to record the registration number.
Four mobile phones, two belonging to Khushbu and two of the couple, are missing since the murders. Their call logs of the past 24 hours didn’t indicate any suspicious activity. Police suspect WhatsApp calls may have been used to avoid getting detected. The IP addresses of the WhatsApp numbers through which the deceased were contacted are being analysed.
Police are verifying 246 numbers that Khushbu had been in contact with since January 1. Among these is a neighbour who used to call her frequently. He is also being questioned. Khushbu’s Facebook friends are also being analysed to identify whom she was in touch with over the past few weeks. Similarly, around 100 contacts from the couple’s call logs are being scanned for clues.
