ALLAHABAD: In an effort to curb crimes in and around girls’ colleges and schools, the Kaushambi police has decided to install complaint boxes in schools across the district. The idea is to build a rapport between police and students so that students can make complaints about sexual harassment at home or school, and harassment by teachers and strangers.
Besides, cops would also maintain a “ Manchale Register” ( Eve teasers register) with all its 13 police stations with details of eve teasers like names, address, mobile number and details of action being taken against them.

Senior cops believe the initiative will ensure safety of girl students in schools and public places. Often, girls do not take their complaints to police authorities or others because they are afraid of facing them.
From next week, students can drop their complaints in the boxes without their names and mention about the place where the abuse took place.
Additional SP (Kaushambi) Ashok Kumar told TOI that “Sleuths of anti- romeo squad have been roped in to maintain “ Manchale Register” ( eve teasers) with all police stations. He added policemen in plain clothes would be roaming at public places to catch the offenders and videography would also be conducted”.
He also said station officers of all police stations have also been asked to interact with principals’ \ management as well as students on frequent intervals and take action on every application promptly. The cops would also collect feedback of the campaign.

Cops have already prepared the list of educational institutions to install complaint boxes. The complaints will be collected by the police and the student’s problems will be sorted out with the help of the school management. “We will seek the help of counsellors and their parents in sensitive cases,” said an official.
A school teacher preferring anonymity said the complaint boxes should be monitored and used effectively. She further adds “It is a good initiative, particularly if students can post anonymous complaints. Schoolchildren may not always tell school authorities or parents about their problems.
