Coral Springs Sex Assault Suspect on Run After Cutting Off Ankle Monitor: Police

Police are searching for a man who cut off his ankle bracelet and went into hiding following his arrest on sexual assault of a minor charges in Coral Springs, authorities said.

Andres Tomas-Juan Florentin, 36, was arrested in February on four counts of sexual battery and one count of false imprisonment, and later released on bond with an ankle monitor pending trial, Coral Springs Police officials said in a news release Thursday.

But on June 12, a warrant was issued after Florentin, who is a citizen of Guatemala, cut off his ankle monitor and went on the run, police said.

Police are searching for Florentin and believe he may be in hiding in Palm Beach, Broward or Miami-Dade, or could be trying to flee the country.

"Florentin may also be enroute to Guatemala to avoid prosecution as he is known to cross the southern U. S. border," police said.
