AGRA: The hunger strike by a Hathras family, who had sought PM’s permission to end their lives due to unavailability of drinking water in their village, entered into the second day on Friday.
Officials from the district administration visited the family and tried to convince them to end their strike as they ensure a proposal of water supply to the village had been sent to the government.

However, Chandrapal Singh, an MBA graduate, who is on a hunger strike with his wife, remained adamant and refused to end their strike. He is a resident of Nagla Maya in Hasayan block said that the administration was not serious about the issue.
"Whenever the issue is raised, they become active and but do nothing about it," said Singh, adding that a temporary arrangement had been made for the water supply only for a few days.
"Until they provide a permanent solution, we will continue our strike as this issue was raised with the administration for the past one year," they said.
Singh had earlier decided to auction himself along with several youths in the village on Republic day to raise money for supply water connections to the household. The protest, however, did not take place as, it was cancelled by the local administration.
Sikandrarao senior Divisional Magistrate Ramji Misra said, "We are trying to resolve the issue at the earliest but the proposal has to be sanctioned by the state government. The higher authorities are closely following up the matter."
