Youth's murder sparks tension in Begusarai

BEGUSARAI/PATNA: Tension prevailed at Bihat Makaspur village under the FCI police station in Begusarai district following the killing of a youth late on Thursday.
Amarjeet Kumar alias Buddhan was shot dead around 1am when he was sleeping in the veranda of his house. The victim's mother rushed to the spot after hearing the gunshot. She also received bullet injury in the process.Both Amarjeet and his mother were rushed to the sadar hospital at Begusarai where Amarjeet died.
Amarjeet's mother is still undergoing treatment in the hospital. Police said the assailants pumped six bullets into Amarjeet's body to ensure that he was dead. Begusarai SP Awakash Kumar said empty cartridges of 9 mm and .315 bore were recovered from the spot, which suggested that the attack on Amarjeet was pre-meditated.
The SP didn't rule out the involvement of some professional shooters in the killing. Prima facie it appeared that Amarjeet was shot because he had his connections with some liquor mafia operating in the region. He was arrested and sent to jail earlier for his involvement in the illegal liquor trade, the SP told TOI.
Police denied the use of AK-47 assault rifle in the crime. Some locals had told the police that the assailants were carrying AK-47 semi-automatic weapons with them and sprayed bullets on Amarjeet with the sophisticated weapon. The police would record the statement of the deceased's mother once her condition improved.
The local residents are apprehending more clashes following the killing of Amarjeet. "The accomplices of Amarjeet will retaliate and also attack the rival group, which hatched the conspiracy to kill Amarjeet," said a local resident.
Begusarai has witnessed a series of murders in the recent months. "Hardly a day passed without any murder in the district. Law and order situation has plummeted in the district, leaving the people on the mercy of the anti-socials," alleged a local.
