A total of $226,153.75 was successfully raised during the two-day Rewa Province fundraising that was held at Syria Park in Nausori yesterday.

The people of Rewa came out in numbers despite the rain to support the worthy cause fundraiser.

The fundraiser, which is held every three years, brought together people from the nine tikina (districts) of Rewa to assist in the needs and projects.

Chairman of the Rewa Provincial Council Ratu Peni Ratumaitavuki said it had been more than 15 years that the council was supporting the youths of Rewa and living up to the delivery of service for the people of Rewa.

“The purpose of this event is to fundraise a scholarship fund to assist the young people of Rewa who want to further their education at tertiary level,”

“Secondly, funds are raised to assist in projects within Rewa Province with the help of an allocated government grant that has been given towards the Province,” Ratu Peni said.

“All these is to help in delivering the services to our people that will help in the tikina.”

The fundraiser was not only to raise funds but to send a message to the younger generation on the importance of the Province’s customs and tradition.

“We also wanted to show our younger generation of the traditional ceremony that is accorded to our Paramount Chief of Rewa, for them to understand how much we value and treat our chiefly household,” Ratu Peni said.
