MEERUT: Life has not been easy for an eight-year-old and his 14-year-old brother since the death of their parents in 2016, when relatives sent both boys to work as domestic helps at the house of a resident of Meerut. Just how bad the situation was became evident recently when a video of the younger boy, hung upside down by a rope and being flogged by a man, was circulated on social media.

The video showed the boy crying for mercy and saying his leg was hurting and blood was going to his head. But the man, apparently his master, kept on beating him. Now, police have taken cognizance of the video and registered a case. One accused has also been arrested.
Police have also rescued the minor victim and his elder brother from the accused's house. In the video, the minor was seen being roughed up by the accused, identified as Anil Kumar, a resident of Kaithwadi village under Rohta police station. Soon after, he tied up the boy's legs with a rope and hung him upside down from the ceiling. Then, the accused started to flog the boy, who cried for mercy.
According to police, the boy's master, Kumar, was furious as he had run away from his house. Somehow, he had caught him and when the boy was brought back, his master decided to teach him a lesson by brutally beating him up. Avinash Pandey, SP (rural), said, "The family where he lived used to make him work hard. He had fled twice from the place."
Police said the brothers hail from Jadaora Panda area in Saharanpur district. They were brought to Meerut and employed as domestic help by Kumar after relatives of the minor brothers refused to take care of them following the death of their parents in 2016.
Now, an FIR has been registered against accused Kumar at Rohta police station. "The main accused is under arrest and has been sent to jail," said the SP.
