A 22-year-old woman, Kirti Saini, was allegedly burnt alive by her neighbour in Nagla Algarji village in Hathras on Friday night.

AGRA: A 22-year-old woman was allegedly burnt alive by her neighbour in Nagla Algarji village in UP's Hathras on Friday night.
The suspect, Umesh Sharma, was arrested by the Hathras gate police last night and booked on charges of murder on the basis of a complaint filed by the victim’s family. The parents of the deceased, Kirti Saini, have alleged that Umesh (28) had been harassing their daughter for the past few months.
They claimed that they had informed Umesh’s parents about it.
They alleged that on Friday night, Umesh entered their house and burnt Kirti alive by pouring kerosene oil on her while she was sleeping in the open area of the house. “When we reached there after hearing her cries, the accused fled from the house,” they stated.
The victim was immediately rushed to the district hospital, form where the doctors referred her to Aligarh. She was subsequently referred to Delhi’s Safdarjung Hospital, but her family members decided to take her to Agra Medical College where she died last morning.
However, during the interrogation, Umesh told the police that he had been in a relationship with Kirti before he got married four years ago. He said that Kirti had called him up on Friday night and had asked him to meet her but he refused to do so. He claimed that Kirti called up again and this time the call was answered by his wife and they both had a heated arguments during which she threatened his wife for the dire consequences.
Station house officer of Hathras Gate Jitendra Deekhit said that the case has been registered on the basis of the complaint lodged by the victim’s family members and matter is being investigated in detail.
